Prof. Dr. Omid Safi, Director of the Center for Islamic Studies at Duke University, will give a lecture titled “Love of Allah: Mezheb-i Love” at the Nermin Tarhan Conference Hall of Üsküdar University.

Prof. Safi gives the following information about his speech:

“The Religion of Love: (Mezheb-i Aşk): Love as a Way of Access from Humanity to the Divine”

The emergence of a distinct understanding called Mezheb-i Aşk in the Sufi tradition is one of the most enthusiastic developments.

Before this development, Sufis divided love into love for the human and love for the divine.

However, from this perspective, a new awareness emerged, going back to Ahmad Ghazali and reaching its peak in Abu Sa’id Abu’l-Hayr, Harakanî, Attar and Mevlânâ. At this point, there is only the concept that there is only one Love, which is expressed as the overflow of the Divine Presence into this realm, which is instrumental in the creation of the universe and the maintenance of life in this world, and which will then take us back to our Origin from whence we came.

Note Simultaneous interpretation will be available during the conference.

Participation in the program is free.
