Üsküdar University Institute of Sufi Studies, with the support of Kerim Foundation, will organize a Summer School for Sufi Studies between July 16-29, 2018. The Summer School program includes different layers of education. It will be open to all interested parties.

Carl Ernst, Sachiko Murata, William Chittick, James Morris, William Chittick and Muhammad Rustom from Carleton University in Canada were invited to give lectures at the Summer School. Our guest lecturers, who are among the most important researchers in the field of Sufism in the world, will come together for the first time in a training program. Participation is expected from Turkey as well as from various countries around the world.

Within the scope of the summer school, TSV542 Sufi Texts in English, which is an elective course in the curriculum of the Sufi Culture and Literature graduate program of the Institute, can be taken for credit by graduate students. These courses are structured as weekend and evening classes. There will be a series of seminars on Sufi studies on weekdays during daytime hours. Within the scope of the program, close readings will be made for Ottoman Turkish Sufi Texts, Arabic and Persian Sufi Texts according to the participant profile. Such textual studies will be carried out by Institute faculty members Emine Yeniterzi, Cangüzel Zülfikar, and visiting faculty members Muhammed Rustom and James Morris. The program will also include three public lectures. Cemalnur Sargut and Mahmud Erol Kılıç, the Rector Advisors of our University, will also take part in the public conferences.

Simultaneous interpretation in English will be provided during the two-week program. The program content is planned to be delivered between 09.30-21.30 on weekdays and 10.00-18.00 on weekends. Everyone who registers for the Summer School will be able to participate in the full program content. Students who will take the English Sufi Texts Course for credit will be obliged to attend at least 70% of the hours defined for this course. Program details, registration and payment procedures will be announced separately. Accommodation will be provided for students from abroad. Accommodation for students from outside Istanbul is limited to quota. Accommodation quota will be used in order of application date.
